Call me shocked! The grossly misnamed National Organization for Women is DEFENDING conservative candidate Christine O’Donnell.

O’Donnell recently found herself the focus of a gossip article suggesting that she had been drunk and behaved as some sort of slut/tease combo years ago at a Halloween party. The anonymous accuser told “Gawker” (an online gossip tabloid) that O’Donnell had come on to him, and then refused to have sex.

Gawker editor Remy Stern confirmed that the anonymous “man” who was later exposed as Dustin Dominiak, an auditor at the Federal Reserve in Philadelphia, received in the “low four figures” for the story and photos of O’Donnell in a ladybug costume.

Of course I could comment on Dustin Dominiak, a man who by his own account was so repulsive that a drunk, naked, virgin who wanted to have sex, rejected him. I could also comment on the type of sleezeball who would search through years of old photos in the hopes of finding some “incriminating” story to sell for a few thousand dollars to an online gossip rag. I could even question how a person like Dustin Dominiak, so clearly lacking in honor and integrity could be employed as an auditor with the Federal Reserve, a position that requires sound judgment and a strong sense of ethics.

But in my opinion, the real story isn’t the sleazebag Dominiak or the trash posted on gossip web sites like Gawker. The real story is that finally, FINALLY, the National Organization for Women has stepped up to the plate to defend ALL women, not just those who share opinions with the ultra-liberals in charge of the group.

The National Women’s Party was originally founded to equalize the legal and financial realities for women in the United States. Largely responsible for both women and non-whites winning the right to vote, NWP spent the early and middle part of the 20th Century spearheading the Equal Rights Amendment.

Originally, a conservative and religious based organization, in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, as the original founders and activists passed away, the leadership rolls in the organization were taken over by ultra liberals. Despite being a few votes shy of enacting the Equal Rights Amendment, which would have create law guaranteeing equal pay for equal work for all women in the Unites States, the NWP was reborn as the National Organization for Women and changed their focus to advancing gay and lesbian and pro-abortion choice causes.

Since then, they have lent their support only to issues and people who fall in line with their very far left ideology. But After decades of ignoring, marginalizing, or villianizing, all but the most liberal leaning women NOW President Terry O’Neill shocked when she issued the following statement.

“Today the tabloid website Gawker published an anonymous piece titled “I Had A One-Night Stand With Christine O’Donnell” that takes the routine sexual degradation of women candidates to a disgusting new low. NOW repudiates Gawker’s decision to run this piece. It operates as public sexual harassment. And like all sexual harassment, it targets not only O’Donnell, but all women contemplating stepping into the public sphere.”

O’Neill went on to say that she hoped that O’Donnell would lose the political race and that she didn’t agree with her political stance, but that this sort of an attack on one woman is an attack on all women.

Critics of the National Organization for Women see O’Neill’s condemnation more as a public relations stunt than actual support. Two weeks ago, Patricia Bellasalma, head of California’s chapter of NOW, stunned when she mimicked Jerry Brown’s wife in calling Meg Whitman a “whore.” After announcing that NOW was supporting Democrat Jerry Brown for Governor, Bellasalma was asked to comment on the “whore” scandal. Instead of condemning the personal attack, she said “Meg Whitman could be described as ‘a political whore.’ Yes, that’s an accurate statement.”

Outraged that an executive from NOW (Bellasalma) would make demeaning, public, statements against a woman, people on both sides of the political spectrum called for the organization (which receives tax payer funds) to be defunded. In response, O’Neill attempted to spin Bellasalma’s statement by demanding that Brown fire anyone on his team who made sexist comments in the future. She further attempted to distance the organization from Bellasalma’s statement saying, “This term is hate speech that carries with it negative connotations associated with women, and it has no place in contemporary society.”

Critics suggest that O’Neill’s quick defense of O’Donnell is a further attempt to repair NOW’s image and give the impression that the National Organization for Women is a more mainstream group. With Republicans and Tea Party candidates in particular calling for the defunding of other radically leftist organizations, such as ACORN, National Public Radio, & the Public Broadcasting Service, for O’Neill it seems like an exercise in survival.

While O’Donnell may not emerge next week as a Senator, there is little doubt that the trend in exposing organizations that claim to be bipartisan to receive tax payer dollars only to spend the money on an ultra-liberal, agenda will continue. As Americans look to their history and the purpose and principals established by the Founding Fathers, one can only hope that the National Organization for Women would look to it’s own history and re-embrace it’s purpose, the advancement of equality for ALL American women, not just ultra-libs.

Where the heck did you find a source that said “Largely responsible for both women and non-whites winning the right to vote, NOW spent the early and middle part of the 20th Century spearheading the Equal Rights Amendment.”???? NOW didn’t even come into existance until the 1960s!!
A journalist/writer/commentator who disregards facts or doesn’t do proper research discredits themselves and loses credibility. Given your credentials you should know better.

  2. Wow did I drop the ball or what!

What I meant to say was:

“The National Women’s Party was originally founded to equalize the legal and financial realities for women in the United States. Thanks for pointing out my brain freeze moment, it’s been corrected now.
