WILL THE REPUBLICANS DO WHAT THEY WERE ELECTED TO DO?

On November 2, 2010 the Republicans were again given control of the House of Representatives. When the Republicans were first given control in 1994 they did not keep the promises made by the Republican Contract with America to reduce the size of our government. Not all of them could be kept due to the natural give and take of politics and some were just typical campaign promises. But by making the Contract with America (CWA) the Republicans upped the expectations of what they could and would do to reduce the size of our government. After the 1998 election most of the promises of the CWA were forgotten. They had returned to politics as usual. It was only on their campaigns that the Republicans paid any attention to the idea of fiscal conservatism. Public anger over this caused the Republicans to lose control of Congress in 2006 with an even greater loss of seats and the White House in 2008.

Which brings up the question, “Will 2010 be a repeat of 1994?” It could. Not only could it be a repeat of 1994 but if the Republicans act as they did after 1998 it could also be the death knell of the Republican Party. Would it be a tragedy if the Republican Party were to cease to exist? Not really. There are several conservative political parties that would love to replace them.

The Republicans are now making their second formal promise, the Contract from America, to reduce the size of our government let’s see if they can keep it this time. The Republicans have always claimed to be the party of limited government. Their ongoing failure to actually live up to that claim is a “called” strike one. The failure to keep the 1994 contract was strike two. A failure to keep their 2010 promises would be strike three. Can the Republicans be kept from striking out?

For their sake a way of assuring that the Republicans do as they have repeatedly promised would be helpful. A way of bringing the Republican Party back to being the conservative party it has always claimed it was. How can this be done? We put the Republicans (AKA the GOP) on probation! From now on instead of the GOP being an acronym for the Grand Old Party it is an acronym for Government On Probation. Either the GOP actually starts working to reduce the size of our government or it ceases to exist.

To enforce the Republicans being probation a national organization that will watch them closely is needed. That organization exists, it is the A1S8 Society. How will the A1S8 Society keep tabs on the GOP? To a certain extent that has been done by Rush Limbaugh and talk radio in general. Talk radio is primarily entertainment with about 20,000,000 listeners a week. Talk radio has educated the American public.

But listening to the radio is not action. Now is the time for action! Can you imagine what an active conservative group with 10% of talk radio’s audience could do? What Republican (GOP) member of Congress or state legislature can afford to ignore up to 2,000,000 active conservative voters? If even 1% of the talk radio listeners joined the A1S8 Society no member of Congress or the state legislatures could safely ignore us.

Now we conservatives must build on our action of giving the Republicans (GOP) control of the House of Representatives, again! We must remain active and tell them what to do. What they must do is repeal laws. “Useless laws weaken the necessary laws.”* The list of laws to repeal starts with the Health Care Reform Act. To repeal it will be a difficult job. The effort to repeal it will be a good test to see which of the new Representatives are conservatives and which one is a RINO. When it goes to the Senate many of the Democrats there are up for reelection in 2012. The ones that are up for reelection are from conservative states. States where most of the people want to see Obamacare repealed.

Do you want Obamacare repealed? Because should Congress vote to repeal it you can be sure that Pres. Obama will veto it. Then the battle to get it repealed really starts! Getting the bill to repeal Obamacare passed with the necessary 2/3 majority to override a presidential veto is the real challenge. That is where the need for the A1S8 Society exists, to be the conservative conscience of the new Republican (GOP) members of the House of Representatives. “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.”** The repeal of Obamacare is the defense of liberty.
